Aaron is what we call a ghost town in Jackson County, Oklahoma. It's a place where people used to live, but now it's mostly empty. Aaron is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of a town called Olustee.
What is Aaron, Oklahoma?
Aaron is a special kind of place called a ghost town. This means it was once a busy community, but over time, most or all of its residents moved away. Now, very little or nothing remains of the original town.
A Town That Disappeared
For a short time, Aaron had its own post office. This was a very important place for any town back then. It helped people send and receive letters and packages. The post office in Aaron opened on January 22, 1899. However, it didn't stay open for very long. It closed down just a few years later, on January 14, 1905. When a town loses its post office, it's often a sign that fewer people are living there.
How Aaron Got Its Name
The town of Aaron was named after an early settler in the area. His name was Calvin Aaron. It was common for new settlements to be named after important people who helped start them or lived there first.
