Aaron Paul (born Aaron Paul Sturtevant; August 27, 1979) is an American actor and producer. He is most famous for playing Jesse Pinkman in the TV show Breaking Bad (2008–2013). For this role, he won many awards, including three Primetime Emmy Awards. He also won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on Television three times.
Aaron Paul played Jesse Pinkman again in the Netflix movie El Camino (2019). He also appeared in the final season of the spin-off show Better Call Saul (2022). Before Breaking Bad, he had smaller roles in music videos, TV shows, and movies. He was a regular on the HBO series Big Love (2006–2011).
After Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul starred in films like Need for Speed (2014) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). He also lent his voice to Todd Chavez in the Netflix cartoon BoJack Horseman (2014–2020). He was also an executive producer for BoJack Horseman. He played Eddie Lane in the Hulu show The Path (2016–2018) and Caleb Nichols in the HBO science fiction show Westworld (2020–2022). In 2023, he was praised for his role as Cliff in the Black Mirror episode "Beyond the Sea".
Early Life
Aaron Paul Sturtevant was born in Emmett, Idaho, on August 27, 1979. He was the youngest of four children. His father was a Baptist minister. Aaron grew up performing in church plays.
He finished high school in 1997 at Centennial High School in Boise, Idaho. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles. He drove there in his 1982 Toyota Corolla with his mother and $6,000 saved up. Soon after arriving, he appeared on the game show The Price Is Right in 2000. He also worked as an usher at a movie theater in Universal Studios in Hollywood.
Career
In 1996, Aaron Paul went to Los Angeles for a modeling and talent competition. He won second place and found a manager. He appeared in commercials for popular brands like Juicy Fruit and Coca-Cola Vanilla. He also had roles in films such as Whatever It Takes (2000), K-PAX (2001), and Mission: Impossible III (2006). He also guest starred on many TV shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, ER, and The X-Files.

Paul became well-known for his role as Scott Quittman on HBO's Big Love. He appeared in fourteen episodes of the show. In 2008, he started playing Jesse Pinkman on the AMC series Breaking Bad. His character was originally supposed to leave the show early on. However, the show's creator, Vince Gilligan, saw how well Aaron Paul worked with the main actor, Bryan Cranston. So, he decided to keep Jesse as a main character.
For his role in Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series five times. He won the award in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
In 2014, Aaron Paul starred in Need for Speed. He played a street racer who seeks revenge. He also appeared in the movie Exodus: Gods and Kings, playing the Hebrew prophet Joshua.
Aaron Paul was a voice actor on the animated Netflix series BoJack Horseman. In 2016, he played Eddie Lane in the Hulu series The Path. His character joins a group but then starts to question his beliefs. That same year, he voiced the main character, Nyx Ulric, in the movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.
From 2019 to 2023, Paul was a regular cast member on the Apple TV+ crime drama series Truth Be Told. In 2018, he joined the cast of the HBO science fiction series Westworld for its third season. He played the character Caleb Nichols.
Paul also starred in the sci-fi thriller Dual alongside Karen Gillan. This movie was filmed entirely in Tampere, Finland. In 2023, he had a main role in an episode of the sixth season of Black Mirror, called "Beyond the Sea".
Other Ventures
In 2013, Aaron Paul helped organize a contest to raise money for his wife's non-profit organization, the Kind Campaign. This group works to prevent bullying. The winners of the contest got to go to a special screening of the final episode of Breaking Bad.
Aaron Paul has spoken positively about the asexual community. This is because he voiced the asexual character Todd Chavez on BoJack Horseman. In 2019, he said he was "so proud to represent that community." He felt it was important to have a character on a popular show like BoJack who represents this community.
In 2019, Aaron Paul and his Breaking Bad co-star Bryan Cranston launched their own brand of mezcal (a type of alcoholic drink) called Dos Hombres.

Aaron Paul met actress and director Lauren Parsekian at the Coachella Festival. They got engaged in Paris on January 1, 2012. They were married in a fun, carnival-themed wedding in Malibu on May 26, 2013. Musicians like Foster the People and John Mayer performed at their wedding.
They live in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. They also own a second home near McCall, Idaho. They have a daughter named Story Annabelle (born in February 2018) and a son named Ryden Caspian (born in April 2022). Aaron Paul's Breaking Bad co-star Bryan Cranston is Ryden's godfather.
In April 2013, to celebrate the final episode of Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston got matching tattoos. Aaron Paul had the phrase "no half measures" tattooed on his arm. In October of that year, the Governor of Idaho, Butch Otter, declared October 1 as "Aaron Paul Sturtevant Day" in a ceremony in Boise, Idaho.
In November 2022, Aaron Paul legally changed his last name from "Sturtevant" to "Paul". This was so he, his wife, and their children would all share the same "Paul" surname.
