Abbas Abdi (born October 1, 1956) is an important Iranian journalist and social activist. He is known for being a reformist, which means he works to bring about positive changes in society.

About Abbas Abdi
Abbas Abdi was born in 1956. He studied engineering at Tehran Polytechnic. After his studies, he worked in government offices for a short time. He also helped lead the Center for Strategic Research.
Early Activism
In 1979, during the early years of the Iranian Revolution, Abdi was one of the students who entered the United States embassy in Tehran. Later, he became a critic of the government's political system.
Journalism and Challenges
Abdi was a key member of the newspaper Salam. In 1993, he faced legal challenges because of his critical articles in Salam. He was held for about eight months during this time.
He strongly supported President Mohammad Khatami's plans for reform. After 1997, Abdi became one of the most important figures in the reform movement.
Public Opinion and Later Life
Abdi became the head of the Ayandeh public opinion firm. In 2002, his firm conducted a poll. This poll showed that many Iranians wanted to restart talks with the United States.
After this poll, Abdi was arrested in November 2002. He spent several years in prison. In the 2009 Iranian presidential election, he was an important advisor to Mehdi Karroubi. Today, he is the chairman of the Association of Iranian Journalists.
