Abcoude is a lovely town in the Netherlands. It's located in the province of Utrecht. Until 2011, Abcoude was its own local government area, called a municipality. Now, it's part of a larger municipality known as De Ronde Venen.

Where is Abcoude?
Abcoude is in the Utrecht Province. It's about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of Amsterdam. The town sits where three rivers meet: the Angstel, Gein, and Holendrecht. This makes it a very scenic place!
What is Abcoude like?
The area that used to be the municipality of Abcoude included the main town of Abcoude. It also had two other smaller places: the village of Baambrugge and the tiny hamlet of Stokkelaarsbrug. In 2001, about 6,431 people lived in Abcoude. By 2023, the population had grown to 8,295 residents.
Abcoude's Past
Abcoude has a long history. It was first mentioned way back in 1085. A report from the bishop of Utrecht talked about the people living there. They were called 'habitatores de Abecenwalde'.
Important Events in History
- 1672: Most of the town was sadly burned down by French forces.
- 1820: Abcoude had about 1,100 people living there.
- 1941: The municipality of Abcoude was officially created. This happened when two smaller areas, Abcoude-Proosdij and Abcoude-Baambrugge, joined together.
Getting Around Abcoude
The town has its own train station, called Abcoude railway station. It's located in the northern part of Abcoude. From this station, you can catch direct trains to big cities. These include Amsterdam, Utrecht, Gouda, and Rotterdam. This makes it easy for people to travel to and from Abcoude.
Fun Fact About Abcoude
Abcoude is known for something unique! It's the only town in the Netherlands whose name starts with the letters A, B, and C in that order. And it also ends with D and E in that order. Pretty cool, right?
