Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, also known as Irro, is an important politician from Somaliland. He was born on April 24, 1956. He is currently the 6th President of Somaliland, a role he started on December 12, 2024.
Before becoming president, Abdirahman served as the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. This is like being the leader of the parliament. He was also a candidate for president in the 2024 election for the Waddani Party.

Abdirahman Irro's Early Life and Work
Starting a Career in Public Service
Abdirahman worked for an organization called the Settlement Development Agency. This agency helped people in different parts of Somalia. In 1981, he began working in the foreign service. This means he worked for his country in other countries.
Working as a Diplomat
Abdirahman served in the Somali Embassy in Moscow. He was the first consular there, which meant he helped Somali citizens in the entire Soviet Union. In 1991, he became Somalia's acting Ambassador to the Soviet Union. He helped many Somalis who had left their home because of the civil war.
Moving to Finland
Later, in 1996, Abdirahman moved to Finland to join his family. They had moved there a few years earlier. He later became a citizen of Finland.

Joining the UCID Party
In 2005, Abdirahman was elected to represent the Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) in Sahil. The UCID party was one of the first opposition parties in Somaliland. They supported a public vote that helped create a system with many political parties.
Parliamentary Election in 2005
Somaliland held elections for its House of Representatives on September 29, 2005. This was the first time a multi-party parliamentary election happened in Somaliland since 1991.

2017 Presidential Election
The 2017 Somaliland presidential election took place on November 13, 2017. The winner was Muse Bihi Abdi from the Kulmiye party, who received 55% of the votes. Abdirahman received 41% of the votes in that election.
2024 Presidential Election
Abdirahman was elected President of Somaliland in the 2024 Somaliland presidential election. He was the candidate for the Waddani Party. He won with almost 64% of the votes. The previous president, Muse Bihi Abdi, received 35%. Abdirahman officially became president on December 12, 2024.
