Mian Abdul Haye (born December 1889 – died 20 December 1946) was an important Punjabi lawyer and politician. He lived during a time when India was ruled by the British, known as the British Raj.

Mian Abdul Haye was a well-known lawyer and politician from Punjab. He lived during the time of the British Raj, which is when the British ruled over India. He was born in December 1889 and passed away in December 1946.

Early Life and Education

Mian Abdul Haye came from a rich Muslim family in Ludhiana, a city in the Punjab region. He went to Forman Christian College and then studied law at the University of the Punjab. After finishing his studies, he started working as a lawyer in Ludhiana in 1910.

Starting His Political Journey

Soon after becoming a lawyer, Mian Abdul Haye was elected to the Ludhiana city council, called the municipality. He even became its Vice-President. During the First World War, he helped encourage people to join the army. For his efforts, he was given an award called the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1919.

He also took part in important political events. He spoke out against the Rowlatt Act, which was a strict law passed by the British. In 1921, he joined the Khilafat Movement, a big movement that supported the leader of the Muslim world. Because of his strong beliefs, he gave back his MBE award that same year.

In 1923, he was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly, which was like a regional parliament. He represented the East Punjab Muslim area as a member of the Moderate Party. Later, in 1933, he moved to Lahore and joined a different political group called the Unionist Party.

A Leader in Education

After the Unionist Party won the elections in 1937, Mian Abdul Haye became the Minister of Education. This was a very important job! As Education Minister, he strongly believed that all children should get free and mandatory primary education. He also wanted the education system to teach more about Indian history and culture.

During the Second World War, he once again helped with the war effort. He assisted in getting people to join the army and helped raise money for the war.

Working for Pakistan

For most of his career, Mian Abdul Haye worked to bring Muslims and Hindus together. However, in 1946, he changed his focus. He became a strong supporter of creating a separate country for Muslims, which would be called Pakistan. He supported the Direct Action Movement, which was started by the Muslim League to push for the creation of Pakistan.
