A Look Back: The History of Aberdeen
How Aberdeen Got Its Name
Aberdeen was given its name after the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. This shows a connection to places across the world, even in a small California community.
The Moving Post Office
Originally, Aberdeen was located a bit east of where it is now. It was near the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks.
A post office first opened in 1895 with the name Tibbotts. It later moved and changed its name to Aberdeen in 1896. The post office closed in 1898 but then reopened in 1921. It finally closed for good in 1934. The name Tibbets honors a local family who owned a ranch in the area.
