History of Abington
Abington was officially planned and marked out on maps in 1817. This means that its streets and plots of land were designed and recorded.
A post office was opened in Abington in 1824. This office helped people send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open until it was closed in 1903. The community was named after the Abington Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends, a group of Quakers from Pennsylvania. Quakers are a religious group known for their peaceful beliefs.
