List of lieutenant governors of Iowa facts for kids
The Lieutenant Governor of Iowa is an important leader in the state government. This person is like a backup for the Governor. If the Governor cannot do their job, the Lieutenant Governor steps in. The state's rules, called the state constitution, say that the Lieutenant Governor helps the Governor and does other jobs that the law requires.
How Lieutenant Governors Are Chosen
For a long time, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Iowa were elected separately. This meant people voted for them in different elections. But things changed in 1990. Since then, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor run for office together. This means you vote for them as a team.
