John Herriott (born October 20, 1844 – died September 24, 1918) was an American politician. He was born in Herriottsville, Pennsylvania.
Herriott served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Later, he moved to Iowa and became involved in business. He held important political jobs in Iowa. These included being the State Treasurer and the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. He passed away in Des Moines, Iowa.

John Herriott was born on October 20, 1844, in a town called Herriottsville, Pennsylvania. This town is located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
When he was a young man, the American Civil War began. John Herriott joined the Union Army. This was the army that fought for the northern states. He was part of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment.
During the war, he took part in some very famous battles. These included the Battle of Fredericksburg and the Battle of Gettysburg. These were major events in American history.
Moving to Iowa and Political Career
After the Civil War ended, John Herriott moved to the state of Iowa. There, he started a business career. His experience in business helped him later in politics.
