About the Monument
This natural monument helps protect a unique natural passage through the Andean mountains. It is the only natural way to cross these mountains in this region. This special pathway connects the high western plains with the Táchira depression, which is a lower geological area.
What Makes it Special?
The Abra de Río Frío area has a lot of plants and trees. This thick plant life helps to control the local weather, keeping the air fresh and cool. The Cerros de Blanquisal are also part of this area and are known for their beautiful views. Close to the monument's edges, near the Uribante river, two other rivers, the Frío and Quinimari, meet.
Protecting Nature and Roads
The natural monument also protects an important road. This road connects San Cristóbal with the Uribante regions. Protecting this area helps keep the road safe and open for travel.
