Abutilon Island is a small island located about 120 kilometers (75 miles) off the coast of Onslow. Onslow is a town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

What is Abutilon Island?

Abutilon Island is part of a group of islands called the Lowendal Islands. It sits just south of Varanus Island. It's also about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) east of a much bigger island called Barrow Island.

This island is about 27 hectares (67 acres) in size. It is mostly made up of raised limestone rocks. There isn't much plant life growing on the island.

Animals on and around Abutilon Island

The islands in this area are home to several types of sea turtles. These include the hawksbill turtle, the flatback turtle, and the green turtle. However, these turtles are not known to lay their eggs on Abutilon Island itself.

Many different birds can be found on the island. Some of these birds are considered threatened species. They include the wedge-tailed shearwater, the bridled tern, the crested tern, and the lesser crested tern.
