Acacia sericoflora is a type of shrub or tree that belongs to a large group of plants called Acacia (also known as wattles). This plant is found naturally in the northern parts of Australia.

What Does Acacia sericoflora Look Like?

This plant can grow as a shrub or a small tree. It usually reaches about 3.5 m (11 ft) (around 11.5 feet) tall. The bark on its trunk is smooth, but it can feel a bit rougher near the bottom.

Its branches are strong and have a slightly angled shape. They are grey and covered with soft, silky hairs. Like many Acacia plants, it doesn't have regular leaves. Instead, it has special flattened stems called phyllodes.

These phyllodes are flat and straight. They are shaped like an oval or a narrow oval. They can be 12 to 19 cm (4.7 to 7.5 in) (about 5 to 7.5 inches) long and 8 to 35 mm (0.31 to 1.38 in) (about 0.3 to 1.4 inches) wide. They feel a bit leathery and have two clear veins running through them from the base.

Acacia sericoflora blooms between June and July. It produces bright yellow flowers. These flowers grow on spikes that are 2 to 4.5 cm (0.79 to 1.77 in) (about 0.8 to 1.8 inches) long. After the flowers fade, long, thin seed pods start to form. These pods are often coiled and twisted, and they are about 3 mm (0.12 in) (0.1 inches) wide. Inside the pods, the seeds are lined up lengthwise and are around 4 mm (0.16 in) (0.16 inches) long.

Where Does Acacia sericoflora Grow?

This Acacia species grows in a specific area in northern Australia. You can find it in western Arnhem Land. It also grows inside the boundaries of two national parks: Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge National Park. Its range stretches between the towns of Oenpelli and Edith Falls in the Northern Territory.

You'll often see Acacia sericoflora growing on rocky cliffs and along the edges of creeks. It prefers to grow in clay or sandy soils. It is part of plant communities called woodlands or scrublands. In these areas, it grows alongside other plants like different types of Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, and Triodia grasses.
