Park History

Ackley Lake was made in 1938. Workers built a large earth dam, 51 feet (15.5 meters) high and 3,514 feet (1,071 meters) long. This dam helped create the lake. The lake stores water from the nearby Judith River, brought in by a special canal. This area officially became a Montana state park in 1960. The park's lease was renewed in 2017, ensuring it remains a state park for visitors.
