Hobson is a small city located in Judith Basin County, Montana, in the United States. In 2020, about 179 people lived there.
Hobson was once known as the "Gateway to the Judith Basin." This was because it was an important crossing point over the Judith River. Freight wagons used this route to travel between Fort Benton and the Musselshell River area.
In 1881, a post office opened in the area, and it was called Philbrook. Later, in 1908, the Great Northern Railway built a new branch line. They decided to build a new town about 4 miles west. After some discussion, the railroad named the new town Hobson. It was named after the person who owned the land where the new town was built.
