About the Company
SI.A.M. SRL was started in 1992. Its main office is in Ragusa, and its factory is in Modica. The company has special permission to get water from an area called Santa Maria Zappulla in Modica. They use three active wells to get the water. This water is then sold under three different brand names. The factory building is very large, covering about 8,000 square meters. A big area around the factory is where the water is collected from the ground.
Springs and History
The water for Acqua Santa Maria comes from springs in the southeastern part of Sicily. These springs are located in the Hyblaean Mountains area, near Modica. The water flows from a large, fertile limestone high plain. This area was formed by tectonic movements of the Earth's crust. One of these streams, called Mothicanus, joins with another stream, San Francesco.
People have been using the springs in Modica for a very long time. Along these waterways, people built kitchen gardens and pools to collect water. Some of these structures date back to the time when Arabs ruled Sicily, around the years 844-845.
The Mothicanus torrent later joins the San Liberale stream. Together, they form the Fiumara di Modica, which flows into the Mediterranean Sea. In the area along the Motycanus torrent, between the cities of Scicli and Modica, scientists have found caves and tombs. These findings show that people lived near these waterways as early as the Bronze Age and early Iron Age, which was around 900 BC. The specific area where the springs and the company's factory are located is called "Santa Maria Zappulla".

The company sells its mineral water under three main brands:
