Adán Chávez Frías was born on April 11, 1953. He is a politician from Venezuela. He served as the Governor of Barinas state from 2008 to 2016. Before that, he was Venezuela's Ambassador to Cuba. He also worked as the Minister of Education from 2007 to 2008.

Early Life and Education
Adán Chávez studied at the University of the Andes. This university is located in Mérida, Venezuela. During his time there, he was involved with groups that supported guerrilla movements. Guerrilla groups are small groups that fight against a larger, regular army. Through Adán, his brother Hugo Chávez met with some of these fighters.
Political Career
After his brother, Hugo Chávez, became president, Adán Chávez was appointed as the Ambassador to Cuba. This happened in 2000. In August 2006, he became the Presidential Secretary. This role meant he worked closely with the president.
In January 2007, Hugo Chávez appointed Adán as the Minister of Education. This made him responsible for schools and learning in Venezuela. In 2008, he was elected as the Governor of Barinas state. He ran as a candidate for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). He took over this role from his father, Hugo de los Reyes Chávez.
On March 7, 2019, Adán Chávez was again appointed as the Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba. This appointment was made by President Nicolás Maduro. Since February 14, 2023, he has been the head of the Universidad Nacional Experimental de los Llanos Ezequiel Zamora. This is a university in Venezuela.
Chávez has often spoken out against the United States government. In 2018, he told members of his political party that the "American empire is our fundamental enemy."
International Measures
Some countries have placed restrictions on Adán Chávez. These measures are often called sanctions.
United States Measures
On August 9, 2017, the United States Department of the Treasury placed restrictions on Chávez. This was because of his role in a special commission in Venezuela.
Canada Measures
On November 3, 2017, the Government of Canada also placed restrictions on Chávez. They stated he was involved in serious actions that led to these measures.
Panama Measures
On March 29, 2018, the Panamanian government placed restrictions on Chávez. They stated he was involved in certain financial activities.
Personal Life
Adán Chávez is the oldest brother of Hugo Chávez. Hugo Chávez was the President of Venezuela from 1999 to 2013. Adán also has other brothers. These include Anibal José Chávez Frías (who was a mayor) and Argenis Chávez (who also served as governor).
When he was young, Adán and his brother Hugo were raised by their grandmother, Rosa Inés Chávez. Adán is married to Carmen Herenia Hernández Puente. They were married in 1974. They have four children together: Enzo, Elena, Ernesto, and Elyana. He also has nine grandchildren.
Chávez is the great-grandson of a Venezuelan leader named Pedro Pérez Delgado. He was known as Maisanta. Maisanta was a leader in a rebellion in 1898.
