Ada Falcón (born Aída Elsa Ada Falcone; August 17, 1905 – January 4, 2002) was a famous Argentine tango dancer, singer, and film actress. She was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Ada starred in the movie Ídolos de la radio in 1934. She was well-known for her tango music and recorded over 200 songs. She worked closely with the orchestra leader Francisco Canaro. In 1942, she decided to stop performing and lived a quiet life until she passed away in 2002 at age 96.

Ada Falcón's Early Life

Ada Falcón was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1905. She began acting in plays when she was only 11 years old. People called her "la Joyita Argentina," which means "the Little Argentinian Jewel." When she was 13, she appeared in her first movie, El festín de los Caranchos, in 1918.

As she grew up, Ada sang in musical shows and acted in both plays and movies. In 1925, she made her first tango recordings. She sang as a solo artist with Osvaldo Fresedo's orchestra for Victor Records.

Ada Falcón had a special singing voice called a mezzo-soprano. This was a bit unusual for tango singers back then, as most female singers were sopranos.

Ada became famous across Argentina and even internationally. She sang with the orchestra led by Francisco Canaro. From 1930 to 1942, she was at the peak of her career. During this time, she recorded more than 200 songs and became a very successful artist.

Ada Falcón's Personal Life

During her popular years, Ada Falcón enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle. She loved wearing fancy furs and expensive jewelry. She also owned powerful cars. Ada lived in a large, three-story house in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

She had a close working relationship with Francisco Canaro, who was a very important person in her career.

Ada Falcón's Quiet Life

In 1942, Ada Falcón suddenly stopped performing and left public life. She stayed at her house and avoided contact with the outside world. Sometimes, she would leave her home to go to church. When she did, she dressed completely in black. She would cover her face with a net or sunglasses, and wear a white turban and white gloves.

No one knows for sure why she decided to withdraw from public life. She never spoke about it. Some people thought it might have been because of her relationship with Canaro, but this was never confirmed.

Later in her life, Ada became a "tertiary nun" and moved to a quiet convent. This convent was located in the hills of Córdoba Province. She chose to live a very simple life there, like a pauper. She stayed in a small room with little furniture and ate simple meals. When she got older and her health declined, she moved to a retirement home.

Ada Falcón passed away in 2002. She is buried in the mausoleum for famous artists at Chacarita Cemetery in Buenos Aires.
