Sir Adam Hepburn was an important Scottish figure. He was the son of Adam Hepburn, Master of Hailes and Helen Home. His brother was Patrick, who became the first Earl of Bothwell. Adam Hepburn lived in a place called Craigs in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.

Adam Hepburn married Elizabeth Ogstoun. She was the daughter of William Ogstoun. This marriage helped him gain more land and wealth.

He worked closely with the royal family. He was part of the household of King James IV. On March 30, 1497, he received an important job. He became the Master of the Royal Stables. This meant he was in charge of all the king's horses and their care.

His Death in Battle

Adam Hepburn died fighting in a major battle. This was the Battle of Flodden on September 9, 1513. Many Scottish nobles and soldiers died that day. His brother, George, also died in the battle. His nephew, Adam, the second Earl of Bothwell, was also killed.
