Sir Adam Loftus's Family

Sir Adam Loftus was the oldest son of Sir Dudley Loftus. His mother was Anne Bagenal. Her family was a well-known family from Ulster.

Sir Adam was also the cousin of Lord Loftus. This Lord Loftus was a very high-ranking judge in Ireland. He held the title of Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1619 to 1639.

His Work in Government

Sir Adam Loftus became the Vice-Treasurer of Ireland. This was a key role in managing the country's money. He took over this job from Lord Mountnorris.

Adam Loftus became a close supporter of Thomas Wentworth. Wentworth was the Lord Deputy of Ireland. This meant he was the King's main representative in Ireland. Because of Wentworth's support, Adam Loftus became a member of the Irish Council. This council advised the King on Irish matters.

Sir Adam's younger brother, Nicholas Loftus, also got a job in the Treasury. He became the Clerk of the Pells. This role involved keeping important financial records.

In Parliament, he was known as a strong supporter of Thomas Wentworth. His brother Nicholas and his son Arthur Loftus also represented areas in Wexford.

His Family Life

Sir Adam Loftus was married to Jane Vaughan. They had two children together. Their children were Arthur Loftus and Elizabeth Loftus.

His grandson was Lord Lisburn. Sadly, Lord Lisburn died in 1691. He was fighting in the Siege of Limerick on the Williamite side.
