Adam Kenneth Compton Wood was born on March 13, 1955. He is a retired British diplomat. From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man.

Early Life and Education
Adam Wood went to school at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe. After that, he studied at Oriel College, Oxford, a famous university. He graduated from Oxford in 1977.
A Career in Diplomacy
Adam Wood spent many years working as a diplomat. His job was to build good relationships between the UK and other nations. He held important roles in Africa:
- He was the British High Commissioner to Uganda from 2002 to 2005. A High Commissioner is like an ambassador, but for countries within the Commonwealth of Nations.
- After that, he became the High Commissioner to Kenya from 2005 to 2008.
- Before he retired from diplomatic service in 2010, he worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This is a government department that handles the UK's relationships with other countries. He was the Africa Director, which meant he managed Britain's embassies across Africa.
Leading the Isle of Man
In November 2010, it was announced that Adam Wood would become the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. This is a very special role. The Lieutenant Governor is the personal representative of the British monarch (the Queen or King) on the island. Adam Wood officially started his duties on April 7, 2011. He served in this important position until May 27, 2016.
