Adelaida García Morales (born in Badajoz, Spain, in 1945 – died in Dos Hermanas, Spain, on September 22, 2014) was a Spanish writer. She became well-known for her interesting stories and novels.

Her Life and Work

Adelaida García Morales was born in Badajoz, Spain. When she was 13, she moved to Seville, which was her parents' hometown. She spent most of her teenage years there.

Later, she went to university in Madrid. In 1970, she earned a degree in philosophy and letters. This means she studied big ideas about life and also literature. She also learned how to write screenplays for movies at a special film school.

Adelaida had many different jobs. She taught Spanish and philosophy at a high school. She also worked as a model and an actress, joining a theater group called Esperpento. For a while, she even worked as a translator in Algeria, helping people understand different languages.

Her Books and Success

Adelaida García Morales published her first novel, Archipiélago, in 1981. But she became truly famous in 1985. That year, she released a book with two shorter novels inside it: El sur, seguido de Bene.

One of these stories, El sur, was made into a very famous film. Her partner at the time, Víctor Erice, directed the movie. They had first met in 1972.

Her next book was called El silencio de las sirenas (The Silence of the Sirens). This story takes place in Capileira, a small village in the Alpujarras mountains. Adelaida had lived there for five years in the late 1970s. This book was her most successful work. It won two important awards: the Premio Herralde and the Premio Ícaro.

Adelaida García Morales passed away in 2014 in Dos Hermanas, Spain, due to heart failure.
