Aden Bare Duale is a well-known Kenyan politician. He has held important roles in the Kenyan government. Currently, he serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry. Before this, he was the Cabinet Secretary for Defence.
He was also a Member of Parliament for Garissa Township Constituency. From 2013 to 2020, Duale was the Majority Leader in the National Assembly. This meant he was the main leader for the ruling party's members in parliament. He first became an MP in 2007.

Early Life and Education
Aden Duale was born on June 15, 1969, in Garissa County, Kenya. He started his education at Garissa Primary School. He finished there in 1981.
After primary school, he went to Garissa High School. He completed his secondary education in 1985. Then, he attended Moi Forces Academy, Nairobi, finishing in 1987.
Duale went to Moi University for his first degree in education. Later, he earned a master's degree in business from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology.
Early Career Journey
In 1992, Duale began his career as a teacher. He taught at Sankuri Secondary School for two months. After teaching, he worked as an office clerk in Garissa for six months.
He then joined his family's business. From 1999 to 2003, he was a director at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. He also helped start and became the CEO of the Livestock Marketing Society of Kenya.
Political Career
Serving in Parliament
Aden Duale first became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2007. He represented the Dujis Constituency. He was initially elected with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
In 2013, he changed parties and was re-elected with the United Republican Party. From 2008 to 2013, he also served as an assistant minister. This role was in the Ministry of Livestock Development.
As the Majority Leader, Duale worked on important laws. In 2018, he supported a bill to set aside one-third of parliament seats for women. However, this bill did not pass.
Defence Minister Role
As the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Duale took important actions. He sent Kenyan troops to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. These troops joined a regional force. Their goal was to fight armed groups in the area.
In May 2024, Duale was invited to a special dinner. This dinner was hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden. It honored President William Ruto at the White House.
Personal Life
Aden Duale is married and has five sons. His oldest son is studying at university. His youngest son is in kindergarten.
