Adkins is a small, unincorporated community located in eastern Bexar County, Texas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live and work, but it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Adkins is also part of the big Greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

A Look Back: The Story of Adkins

Adkins started in the 1880s as a simple stop for trains. It was called a "flag station" on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. This means trains would stop there if someone waved a flag to signal them.

The community was named after William Adkins Jones. He was the person who gave the land for the train depot and the tracks. In 1896, Adkins got its own post office, which was a big step for the growing community.

By 1910, about 100 people lived in Adkins, and they had two churches. The population grew to 150 people by 1940, and there were four businesses. As the nearby city of San Antonio grew larger, Adkins also continued to expand. By 1990, Adkins had 241 residents and 32 businesses.

Adkins is also known for some fun places. It's home to Texas Pride Barbecue, a famous restaurant. The season 3 finale of the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was filmed there! Adkins also has Cactus Land Brewing Co., which was the first craft brewery to open in the area in 2017. They make many different kinds of beers, like pilsners, stouts, sours, and IPAs.
