Adnan Badran (Arabic: عدنان بدران; born 15 December 1935) is a Jordanian politician and a well-known scientist. He served as the 35th Prime Minister of Jordan from April 6, 2005, to November 27, 2005. He has also held many important roles in science and education.

Early Life and Education
Adnan Badran was born in Jerash, Jordan, on December 15, 1935. At that time, Jordan was known as the Emirate of Transjordan and was part of the British Empire. His family came from Palestine.
He went to college in the United States. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Science, from Oklahoma State University in 1959. Later, he received his Master's and PhD degrees from Michigan State University in 1963. Adnan Badran's brother, Mudar Badran, was also a politician in Jordan and served as prime minister several times.
Career and Public Service
In 1987, Adnan Badran became the first Secretary General of Jordan's Higher Council for Science and Technology. This council works to advance science and technology in the country. Its president is Prince Hassan bin Talal.
He briefly served as the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Education in the late 1980s. During the 1990s, he became the president of the Arab Academy of Sciences and the Philadelphia University of Jordan. He still holds these positions. From 1994 to 1998, he was the deputy director of UNESCO, a special agency of the United Nations that promotes education, science, and culture.
Becoming Prime Minister
King Abdullah II appointed Badran as prime minister on April 7, 2005. He was chosen to lead a new government that aimed to bring more reforms to Jordan. Badran also took on the role of defense minister in this new government.
However, after seven months, he and his government resigned. This happened because reforms were moving slowly. There was also frustration after the hotel bombings in Amman on November 9, 2005.
Later Achievements
After his time as prime minister, Badran continued his work in education. He was the president of Petra University. In September 2014, he became the Chancellor at the university. He also served as the president of Yarmouk University.
Badran is a Fellow and a former Vice-President of The World Academy of Sciences. In July 2009, he helped publish the UNESCO Science Report 2010 on the Arab States. He has received several Honorary Doctorates from universities like Sungkyunkwan University (1981), Michigan State University (2007), and Yarmouk University (2014). He has written 120 publications, including 22 books, and holds 4 patents.
Personal Life
Adnan Badran lives in Dabouq, Jordan. He has six children and seven grandchildren. On April 1, 2019, his wife, Maha, passed away at the age of 67 after a long illness.
