Badran started his career as a young officer in the Jordanian army. Later, he became the Director of the General Intelligence Directorate in the 1970s. This was during a difficult period in Jordan's history called Black September. After this time, he became the chief of the Hashemite Royal Court, which helps the King. He also served as the Minister of Education.
Leading Jordan as Prime Minister
Badran became the Prime Minister of Jordan for the first time in 1976. He served until 1979. He was appointed again in 1980 and served until 1984. His third term as Prime Minister began in December 1989 and lasted until 1991.
During his time as Prime Minister, Jordan became a democracy again. This meant that the Senate, which is part of the government, got its full powers back. Badran served more than eight years as Prime Minister. This made him the second-longest serving Prime Minister of Jordan. He worked closely with King Hussein.
Other Government Roles
Besides being Prime Minister, Badran also held other important jobs. He was the foreign minister from 1976 to 1979. He also served as the defense minister for most of the time he was Prime Minister.
In 1993, he became a member of the Senate. In 2011, he received an honorary PhD in economics from the Hashemite University.

Mudar Badran lived in Abdoun neighborhood in Amman with his wife, Mo'mina. They had two sons and three daughters. His daughter, Reem Badran, also became a politician and served in the House of Representatives. His younger brother, Adnan Badran, also served as Prime Minister of Jordan in 2005.
After leaving political life, Badran started a steel company called Jordan Steel P.L.C. in 1993. This company grew to become a very important steel manufacturer in Jordan.
