What is the Senate of Jordan?
The Senate of Jordan is a very important part of how Jordan is governed. It is one of the two main groups that make up the country's parliament. Think of it as a team that helps create and approve new laws.
How are Senators Chosen?
All 69 people who become Senators are chosen directly by the King of Jordan. This is different from the House of Representatives, where people are elected by citizens. The King's choices must follow the rules set out in Jordan's Constitution.
How Long Do Senators Serve?
The person in charge of the Senate is called the President of the Senate. This President serves for two years. They can be chosen again for more terms. Regular members of the Senate serve for four years. They can also be chosen again to serve for more terms.
How Do Meetings Work?
For a meeting of the Senate to be official and count, every single member must be present. This means everyone needs to be there for decisions to be made. When it's time to vote on something, decisions are made by counting the votes. The President of the Senate does not usually vote. However, if there is a tie in the votes, the President can then cast a vote to break the tie.
