Adrien Maurice de Noailles (born September 29, 1678 – died June 24, 1766) was an important French noble and a brave soldier. He became the 3rd Duke of Noailles. He also served as the Foreign Minister of France in 1744. Because of his efforts in war, he received many honors. He became a Grandee of Spain in 1711. In 1734, King Louis XV made him a Marshal of France. This was a very high military rank.

His Family and Marriage

Adrien Maurice de Noailles was the son of Anne Jules de Noailles, Duke of Noailles. When his father passed away in 1708, Adrien Maurice became the new Duke.

He married Françoise Charlotte d'Aubigné. She was the niece of Madame de Maintenon. Madame de Maintenon was married to King Louis XIV. Adrien Maurice and Françoise Charlotte had six children together. They had four daughters and two sons.

Adrien Maurice de Noailles and Françoise Charlotte d'Aubigné had several children:

  • Françoise Adélaide de Noailles (born 1704 – died 1776). She married Charles, Count of Armagnac.
  • Amable Gabrielle de Noailles (born 1706 – died 1742). She married Honoré Armand de Villars, Duke of Villars.
  • Marie Louise de Noailles (born 1710 – died 1782). She married Jacques Nompar de Caumont, Duke of La Force.
  • Louis de Noailles (born 1713 – died 1793). He became the 4th Duke of Noailles after his father. He married Catherine Françoise Charlotte de Cossé-Brissac.
  • Philippe de Noailles (born 1715 – died 1794). He was the Count of Noailles and later the Duke of Mouchy. He married Anne d'Arpajon. She was a Lady-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette. Philippe and his wife were executed during the French Revolution.
  • Marie Anne Françoise de Noailles (born 1719 – died 1793). She married Ludwig Engelbert de La Marck, Count of Schleiden.
