About Aerial Acres
Where is it?
Aerial Acres is located in California, about 5.5 miles (9 kilometers) east-southeast of Castle Butte. It's close to State Highway 58, near the town of Edwards. The community sits at an elevation of 2,428 feet (740 meters) above sea level. The local post office uses the ZIP Code 93523, which is also used by Edwards and North Edwards.
How it Started
In the 1990s, Aerial Acres was described as a small collection of homes and trailers. The community began by chance in the 1950s. A well was dug for a sheep ranch, but it turned out to be just outside the ranch's property line.
Since there was a water source, a developer bought a large piece of land. This land was then divided into smaller lots for homes. The community was named "Aerial Acres" because it sits about 300 feet (91 meters) higher than North Edwards. Phone service became available in 1966.
Life in Aerial Acres
According to a 1997 article, about 300 people lived in Aerial Acres. About half of the residents were retired. The other half worked at places like the U.S. Borax mine or Edwards Air Force Base.
