Edwards is a small community in Kern County, California. It used to be called Muroc and Wherry Housing.
This area is located about 16 miles (26 km) east of Mojave. It's also about 22 miles (35 km) northeast of Lancaster. Edwards sits at an elevation of 2,356 feet (718 meters) above sea level.
The community started as a place for people working at the nearby air force base to live. In 1951, its name changed to Edwards. This happened after the air force base itself was renamed. Today, Edwards is part of the large Edwards Air Force Base area.
