Afdlin Shauki bin Aksan (born 19 May 1971) is a talented Malaysian artist. He is known for many things, like being an actor, a film director, a singer, and even a comedian. He also writes songs and presents TV shows. More recently, he has also become involved in politics.

Music Career Highlights
Afdlin is a singer and musician. He performs live with his band, Acid Iz. Their music mixes R&B, acid jazz, and funk. His first album, FUUYO!, came out in late 2003.
In 1992, he performed for a huge crowd of 50,000 people at the 'Ikhlas Concert'. He shared the stage with famous singers like Zainal Abidin and Sheila Majid. He even performed at Ronnie Scott's, a famous jazz club in Europe. This was when he opened for Sheila Majid's UK Tour in 1996. He also sang with David Foster's student, Jordan Hill, in 1997. They sang 'Till the end of time' during her Malaysian tour.
In 2005, he won an award for Best Ethnic Pop song. This was at the Anugerah Juara Lagu ke-19. He wrote the winning song, 'Erti Hidup', for Dayang Nurfaizah.
Television Roles and Hosting
Afdlin has worked as an actor, director, and TV host. In 1999, he won the Best Presenter award at the Asian Television Awards. This was for his role as the host of the talk show Bila Larut Malam on Astro. He hosted this show for six years. He also hosted game shows, sports shows, music shows, and lifestyle programs.
Film Acting and Directing
Afdlin started his film acting career in Malaysia with Mimpi Moon. After that, he appeared in the Hollywood movie "Anna and the King" as an "Interpreter." He then played his first main romantic role in Soal Hati. For this role, he won a Best Actor award in 2000. He later made a follow-up movie called "Soalnya Siapa?".
Afdlin also worked on movies released directly to VCD. One of these was "Kelibat" in 2004. For this project, he wrote, directed, and acted in the film.
His first movie as a writer, director, and lead actor was Buli. This film was about a smart but socially awkward person in a corporate world. In 2005, he won awards for Most Promising New Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Story at the Malaysian Film Festival for Buli. In the same year, he won Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the Anugerah Skrin awards. The sequel, "Buli Balik," also won awards in 2006, including Best Director and Best Film.
Other movies he has been in include Gila-Gila Pengantin Remaja, Pontianak Harum ... Malam, Biar Betul, and Baik Punya Cilok. The movie Baik Punya Cilok won the Film Goer's Choice Award in 2006.
In 2007, he produced, co-directed, and co-wrote Sumolah with his company, Vision Works. This film was shown at the Fukuoka International Film Festival. He also produced, directed, and wrote "Los Dan Faun." He played main or supporting roles in both films.
In 2009, Afdlin produced the film Papadom. It is a comedy-drama about a busy father who becomes very protective of his daughter after losing his wife. This movie won many awards at the 22nd Malaysian Film Festival. It won for Best Original Story, Best Actor, Best Film, and Best Music Score. Afdlin and his co-star Liyana Jasmay also won the Couple With Best Chemistry award in 2010. "Papadom" was shown at film festivals in Taiwan and Japan. It even got 3rd place for the Audience Choice Award at the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2010. A Tamil version of "Papadom" was later made for the Malaysian Tamil audience in 2010.
Involvement in Politics
Afdlin Shauki joined the People's Justice Party (PKR) in March 2021. He had previously been part of UMNO in 2012.
In 2022, Afdlin ran for the Setiawangsa PKR division chief position. He challenged the current chief, Nik Nazmi. Afdlin lost by a small number of votes. After the election, he reported some issues, like missing ballot papers.
In April 2025, Afdlin Shauki ran for the Setiawangsa PKR division chief position again. This time, he won! He defeated Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad with more votes. This was a big win for him.
After his victory, some people talked about his background as a "professional comedian." Afdlin explained that he is dedicated to PKR. He said that having different job experiences should not stop someone from being a political leader. He also mentioned that he joined PKR when the party was facing difficulties, not just when it was popular.

Personal Life and Family
Afdlin Shauki was born and grew up in Johor Bahru, Johor. He is the oldest of ten children. His mother, Fadzilah Jelani, passed away in 2018, and his father, Aksan Abu Bakar, passed away in 2020. He has three children.
