Afton (also called Middledale) is a small, unincorporated community. It is located in the Town of Rock, within Rock County, in the state of Wisconsin, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town. The main office for the Town of Rock is found right here in Afton.
Afton's Story: How It Got Its Name
Afton wasn't always called Afton! Long ago, it was known as Middletown. Around 1857 or 1858, the people decided to change its name. They chose "Afton" because of a famous poem. This poem is called Sweet Afton and was written by a poet named Robert Burns. It's a beautiful poem about a river.
