Saint Agathangelus of Rome was an important early Christian. He lived around the year 300 AD. He was a helper in the church, known as a deacon. He was also a student of another saint, Clement of Ancyra. Agathangelus is remembered as a martyr. This means he was killed because of his Christian faith.
Who Was Saint Agathangelus?
Agathangelus lived in the Roman Empire. He met Saint Clement when Clement was in prison in Rome. Agathangelus became Clement's student and friend. They traveled together to a city called Ancyra. Today, this city is known as Ankara, in Turkey.
His Story
During their time, a Roman emperor named Diocletian ruled. Emperor Diocletian was not kind to Christians. He ordered them to be persecuted. Many Christians were arrested and put to death for their beliefs. Both Saint Agathangelus and Saint Clement were arrested in Ancyra. They were killed for being Christians around the year 312 AD.

Christians remember Saint Agathangelus and Saint Clement on a special day. This day is called their feast day. According to the Gregorian calendar, their feast day is on January 23. Some Eastern Orthodox countries use the Julian calendar. For them, the feast day is on February 5.
