Agender facts for kids
Agender describes a person who feels they do not have a gender identity. It means someone does not feel like they belong to any specific gender group. The "A-" part of the word means 'no' or 'none.' So, an agender person feels like they are neither a boy nor a girl.
Agender people might also use words like "genderless" or "ungendered" to describe themselves. Some agender people also see themselves as transgender, which means their gender identity is different from the gender they were thought to be at birth. However, others prefer to just use "agender" because they feel it describes them best. Agender can be seen as a non-binary identity, meaning it's outside the usual idea of just male or female. It can also simply mean not having a gender identity at all.
Understanding Agender Identity
Agender people have a unique way of understanding themselves. It's about how they feel inside, not about how they look or what others expect.
How Agender People Express Themselves
Many agender people prefer to use "they/them" as their pronouns when others talk about them. This is a way to show that they don't identify as male or female. However, some agender people might use other unique pronouns, like "xe/xer" or "ze/zem."
Some agender people might want to change their bodies to feel more comfortable and match their inner sense of self. Others are perfectly happy with their bodies just the way they are. Everyone's journey is different.
