Agnes Nyblin (born Janson) was a talented Norwegian photographer. She was born on January 25, 1869, and passed away on August 20, 1945. Agnes started a photography business in Bergen, Norway, with her husband. After he died in 1894, she bravely continued to run the business by herself until 1911.
Her Life and Work
Agnes Janson was born in 1869. Her parents were Jacob Neumann Janson and Marthe Helene Janson. Agnes married a photographer named Karl Anton Peter Dyrendahl Nyblin. Together, they opened a photography studio in Bergen. They called their studio "K. Nyblin".
Sadly, her husband died in 1894. But Agnes did not give up. She continued to run the photography business. She made it very successful on her own.
Women in Photography
Agnes was part of a growing group of female photographers in Norway. This became possible because of a new law in 1866. This law allowed women to own and run their own businesses. Before this, it was much harder for women to start a company.
Many women became photographers during this time. Some important ones included Marie Høeg in Horten and Louise Abel in Christiania. Others were Louise Wold in Holmestrand and Augusta Solberg in Lillehammer. Agnes Nyblin and Hulda Marie Bentzen were also well-known in Bergen.
In 1897, Agnes Nyblin was chosen for a special job. She became a police photographer. This meant she took pictures for the police to help with their work.
Famous Photographs

One of Agnes Nyblin's famous photos was taken at a music festival in 1898. This picture shows many important composers and musicians from Denmark. It captures a special moment in music history.
Agnes Nyblin decided to retire in 1911. Her younger brother, Helmich Janson, took over the business. He continued to run the studio for many years. The business finally closed four years after Agnes passed away in 1945.
