Augusta Charlotte Solberg (1856–1922) was an amazing early photographer from Norway. She became a professional photographer and ran her own studio in Bergen starting in 1885.
Augusta Solberg's Life as a Photographer
Augusta Solberg was born in Bergen, Norway, on August 1, 1856. Her father, Anders Solberg, was a ferryman and police officer. Her mother, Anna Samuelsdatter Lund, was a midwife.
Starting Her Photography Career
Augusta learned photography by working with another photographer named L.C.S. Gram. After gaining experience, she took over his studio in Bergen. Her sisters, Valborg and Ragna Solberg, were also photographers and helped her in the studio.
Augusta didn't just work in Bergen. She also took photos in other parts of Norway, like Hardanger in the 1890s and Odda in 1911. Sadly, her main studio in Bergen was destroyed in a big fire in 1916.
