The Story of Don Jorge
In 1947, a smart businessman named José Panizo Vargas started bottling Coca-Cola in Ica, Peru. For 26 years, his son, Jorge Panizo Mariategui, helped make Coca-Cola the most popular drink there.
Around 1973, the government in Peru thought about stopping Coca-Cola sales. Because of this, Jorge Panizo Mariategui made a deal with Don Isaac Lindley. He started bottling and selling Inca Kola in Ica instead. For the next 27 years, Inca Kola became the top drink in that area.
In 2000, The Coca-Cola Company bought Inca Kola. Coca-Cola then wanted to change the rules for companies that bottled their drinks. Embotelladora Don Jorge did not agree with these new rules. After 53 years of experience, Jorge Panizo Mariategui decided to create his own drink brands. He wanted to sell them from his factory in Ica to people all over Peru.
In 2002, Embotelladora Don Jorge S.A.C. opened a new operation in Lima. They invested a lot in new buildings, machines, and other important things. Today, they make popular drinks like Perú Cola and Isaac Kola. In 2003, the company also started adding healthy fiber to some of its soft drinks. They wanted to make their products more nutritious.
