Agustín Mario Cejas (born March 22, 1945 – died August 14, 2015) was a famous Argentine football goalkeeper. He was known for playing for many top clubs in Argentina and Brazil. He holds the record for the most games played for Racing Club.

Who Was Agustín Cejas?

Agustín Cejas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became a professional football player, specializing as a goalkeeper. A goalkeeper is the player who protects the goal and tries to stop the other team from scoring.

Starting His Career

Agustín started playing football at a young age. From 1959 to 1962, he was part of the youth team at Racing Club. This is where he learned many of the skills that made him a great player.

Playing for Top Clubs

Agustín Cejas played for several important football clubs during his career:

  • Racing Club: He played for Racing Club from 1962 to 1969. He returned to the club later, from 1977 to 1980. He played a total of 313 games for Racing Club, which is a club record!
  • Santos FC: From 1970 to 1975, Agustín played for Santos in Brazil. This was a very famous team, and he played alongside the legendary player Pelé.
  • Other Clubs: He also played for Huracán (1975) and Grêmio (1975-1976). Towards the end of his career, he played for River Plate in 1981.

Playing for Argentina

Agustín Cejas also represented his home country, Argentina. He was part of the national team in 1964. He even played for Argentina at the 1964 Summer Olympics.

Later Life

Agustín Cejas passed away on August 14, 2015, at the age of 70. He died from Alzheimer's disease in Brazil. He is remembered as one of Argentina's great goalkeepers.
