Aigburth Cricket Ground facts for kids
Aigburth Cricket Ground is a famous sports field in Liverpool, England. It is the home of the Liverpool Cricket Club. This ground was built in 1880. It is the fourth field the club has used. The main building, called the pavilion, was designed by Thomas Harnett Harrison. This pavilion is the oldest one still standing at a first-class cricket ground. In June 2023, it was given a special "listed status." This means it is an important historical building.

First-Class Cricket Games
The first important cricket match played here was in 1881. It was a "first-class" game. This is the highest level of domestic cricket. The teams were Lancashire and Cambridge University.
In 1973, England hosted the first Women's Cricket World Cup. Aigburth Ground hosted one match during this tournament. It was a Women's One Day International game. The teams were International XI Women and Trinidad and Tobago Women.
Later, in 1984, the West Indies cricket team visited England. They played a match against Lancashire at Aigburth. A big crowd of 7,633 people watched this game. Lancashire lost the match. A famous player, Gordon Greenidge, scored 186 runs. This was a very high score for a one-day game at Aigburth. It was also Greenidge's highest score in this type of match.

In 2011, the main cricket ground for Lancashire, Old Trafford, was being fixed up. So, Lancashire played more games at Aigburth. They played five matches there. This was a special time for Lancashire. They won the County Championship for the first time since 1950. They won four out of their six matches played at Aigburth.
By 2014, Aigburth had hosted 198 first-class matches. It also hosted eighteen "List A" matches by 2017. These are also important one-day games.

The ground also hosted big tennis events. In 1882, it was one of the places for the important Northern Championships. For many years, this tournament switched between Aigburth and the Northern Lawn Tennis Club in Didsbury, Manchester. Aigburth also hosted the Liverpool Cricket Club Lawn Tennis Tournament from 1881 to 1883.
