Ainsworth is a neighborhood located in Hobart, Indiana. Before the early 1990s, it was a small community that wasn't officially part of any city or town. It was known as an "unincorporated community" within Ross Township, which is in Lake County, Indiana.

Ainsworth's Early Days
Ainsworth started as a small community. In 1880, the Grand Trunk Railroad built its tracks to reach Ainsworth. This was an important step for the community, as railroads helped towns grow by bringing in goods and people.
Becoming Part of Hobart
The Annexation Process
Around the early 1990s, the city of Hobart officially took over the Ainsworth area. This process is called "annexation." When a city annexes an area, it means that area becomes part of the city. This usually happens so the city can provide services like water, sewer, and police protection to the new area.
A Name Almost Returned
Before the annexation, some people in Ainsworth tried to stop it. They wanted Ainsworth to become its own official town again. If they had succeeded, the old name "Ainsworth" would have been used for the new town. However, their attempt was not successful, and Ainsworth became a neighborhood within Hobart.
Where is Ainsworth Located?
Ainsworth is found near an important intersection. It's close to where Indiana State Road 51 crosses the Canadian National Railway. This railway used to be known as the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, which was the same railroad that reached Ainsworth in 1880.
