Ajeé Wilson (pronounced AH-jay) is an amazing American runner. She is known for her speed in the 800-meter race. Ajeé became the world indoor champion in the 800 meters in 2022. She also won silver medals in 2016 and 2018 at the World Indoor Championships.

Ajeé has earned bronze medals at the World Championships in 2017 and 2019. She is one of the fastest American runners ever in the 800 meters. Her best time is 1 minute, 55.61 seconds. She also holds the North American indoor record for the 800 meters.

Ajeé won big titles early in her career. She won the 800 meters at the 2011 World Youth Championships. She also won at the 2012 World Junior Championships. Her winning time in 2012 was one of the fastest ever for a high school runner.

Early Life and Education

Ajeé Wilson went to the Academy of Allied Health & Science. This school is in Neptune Township, New Jersey. She finished school there in 2012.

She first planned to run for Florida State University. But she decided to become a professional runner instead. Ajeé graduated from Temple University in 2016. She still trains with her coach, Derek Thompson. They are part of the Juventus Track Club in Philadelphia.

Starting as a Pro: 2013

In 2012, Ajeé decided to become a professional athlete. She chose to keep training with her coach, Derek Thompson. This decision was a great one for her career.

At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, she ran very fast. She set a new North American junior record for the 800 meters. She finished fifth in the world.

Winning Titles: 2014

Ajeé continued to shine in 2014. She won her second U.S. Senior Indoor 800-meter title. This race was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Later that year, she won her first U.S. Senior Outdoor 800-meter title. This victory happened in Sacramento, California. In July, Ajeé ran the fastest 800 meters in the world that year. She won at the Diamond League event in Monaco.

Challenges and Comebacks: 2015

Ajeé started 2015 strong by winning a race in New York City. At the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she faced a challenge. She lost a shoe during the last part of the 800-meter race. Even with this, she still finished third.

She qualified for the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China. However, she could not compete due to an injury.

Breaking Records: 2017

In 2017, Ajeé set a new record in New York City. She ran the 600 meters in 1 minute, 24.28 seconds. This was one of the fastest times ever for that distance.

More Medals and Records: 2018

Ajeé won a silver medal at the 2018 World Indoor Championships in the 800 meters. She was also part of a team that set a world indoor record. This happened in the 4 × 800-meter relay race in New York City.

She won gold medals at both the U.S. Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters. Ajeé also won gold at the 2018 NACAC Championships in Toronto. She set a new championship record there with her time of 1 minute, 57.52 seconds.

Continuing Success: 2019

In 2019, Ajeé set new U.S. and North American indoor records for the 800 meters. She ran 1 minute, 58.60 seconds at the Millrose Games.

She won the 800 meters at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Des Moines. This victory qualified her for the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
