Akadi is a special restaurant in Portland, Oregon. It serves delicious West African food. The restaurant is owned by a Black entrepreneur, Fatou Ouattara, who is also the chef.

What Kind of Food Does Akadi Serve?

Akadi's menu focuses on tasty dishes from Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. You can find many choices, including seafood and vegetarian meals. Some popular items are fried plantains, a dough-like food called plantain fufu, and different kinds of stews.

The Story of Akadi: A Restaurant's Journey

Akadi first opened its doors in the Boise neighborhood of Portland. This was at 3601 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Moving During the Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses faced challenges. Akadi's business went down by half in July 2020. Because of this, the owner, Fatou Ouattara, decided to close the restaurant temporarily on December 31, 2020.

Reopening in a New Location

Akadi found a new home and reopened in May 2022. It moved to the Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood in southeast Portland. Akadi's sister business, House of Flavor, also opened at the same new spot.
