Akeem Maurice Bostick was born on May 4, 1995. He is an American professional baseball pitcher. Akeem is currently a free agent, meaning he is not signed with any team. He was first chosen by the Texas Rangers in the 2013 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. He later made his big league debut with the New York Mets in 2021.

Akeem Bostick's Baseball Journey
Early Days and High School Baseball
Akeem Bostick grew up in Florence, South Carolina. He went to West Florence High School. There, he was the best pitcher on the school's baseball team. In his final year, Akeem had an amazing record. He won 9 games and lost 0. His earned run average (ERA) was very low at 0.68. This means he gave up very few runs. He also got 84 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched. Akeem also played for Florence Post 1 in American Legion Baseball. He helped his team win the state championship in 2012.
Starting Professional Baseball
Akeem had planned to go to Georgia Southern University to play baseball and football. But the Texas Rangers picked him in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft. He was the 62nd player chosen overall. Akeem decided to sign with the Rangers instead of going to college. He received a signing bonus of over $500,000.
The Rangers sent him to play for their rookie team, the Arizona Rangers. He had a good first year, winning 4 games and losing 1. His ERA was 2.83. In 2014, he played for the Hickory Crawdads.
Playing for the Houston Astros
In 2015, Akeem was traded to the Houston Astros. He played for two of their minor league teams that year. He had a combined record of 9 wins and 5 losses. He continued to play in the Astros' minor league system for several years. He played for teams like the Quad Cities River Bandits, Lancaster JetHawks, Tri-City ValleyCats, Buies Creek Astros, Corpus Christi Hooks, and Fresno Grizzlies. In 2019, he played for the Round Rock Express. He was released by the Astros in August 2019.
Independent League Baseball
After leaving the Astros, Akeem played in independent baseball leagues. These leagues are not connected to Major League Baseball teams.
- In August 2019, he joined the Kansas City T-Bones. He played 4 games there.
- In July 2020, he signed with the Sugar Land Skeeters. This was a special league created because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He had a very low 0.90 ERA in 8 games.
Brief Stint with the St. Louis Cardinals
In September 2020, Akeem signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. However, he did not play any games for them in 2020. This was because the minor league season was canceled due to the pandemic. He was released by the Cardinals in March 2021.
Major League Debut with the New York Mets
On May 18, 2021, Akeem signed with the New York Mets. He was sent to their Triple-A team, the Syracuse Mets. On July 28, 2021, the Mets called him up to the major leagues for the very first time! He made his MLB debut on July 29, 2021. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves. He got three batters out and walked one. The next day, he was sent back to the minor leagues.
More Independent League Teams
After his time with the Mets, Akeem continued to play in independent leagues.
- In January 2022, he signed with the Kansas City Monarchs.
- In June 2022, he joined the Wild Health Genomes. He made 19 appearances for them.
- In May 2023, he signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries. He started 15 games for them. He was even named an All-Star for the Canaries that season! He became a free agent after the 2023 season.
