Muhammad Akhyar bin Abdul Rashid (born on May 1, 1999), known as Akhyar Rashid, is a professional Malaysian footballer. He plays as a winger or striker. Currently, he plays for Thai League 1 club Ratchaburi and the Malaysia national team.

Early Life and Football Start
Akhyar was born in Jitra, Kedah, Malaysia. He started playing football when he was very young. His brothers also played, which encouraged him to join the sport. Fans of Kedah often call him "Mat Yat."
Club Career Highlights
Starting at Kedah
Akhyar joined the Kedah youth academy at age 15. He played for the Kedah Under-19 team in the Youth Cup. On October 16, 2017, he helped Kedah U-19 win their first-ever cup. In January 2015, he even trained for a month with the Cardiff City Academy in the United Kingdom.
Akhyar made his first team debut for Kedah on March 4, 2017. He came on as a substitute in a 4–0 win. He scored his first senior goals on July 27, 2017, in a Malaysia Cup match. Kedah won that game 6–2. On February 11, 2018, Akhyar scored his first goal in the Malaysia Super League for Kedah. This was his seventh appearance for the club.
Moving to Johor Darul Ta'zim
On December 29, 2018, Akhyar signed with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT). He played his first game for JDT on February 2, 2019, as a substitute in a 1–0 win. Akhyar also made his AFC Champions League debut. He scored his first goal for JDT on April 5, helping his team win 3–1.
On November 7, 2023, Akhyar scored a goal in the 87th minute during a 2023–24 AFC Champions League match. This goal helped JDT secure a 2–1 win against the Korean club Ulsan Hyundai.
Loan to Terengganu
On February 12, 2024, Akhyar joined Terengganu on a loan. On July 30, he scored a goal and assisted another in a 3–2 win.
Permanent Move to Terengganu
On April 28, 2025, Akhyar signed a permanent two-year contract with Terengganu until 2027. He had a great 2024–25 season, scoring 10 goals and making 4 assists in 22 games. Akhyar became a very important player for the club.
Joining Ratchaburi
After his time at Terengganu, Akhyar moved to Thai League 1 club Ratchaburi in 2025.
International Career
Youth Teams
Akhyar has played for Malaysia at all youth levels. This includes the Under-16 to the Under-23 teams. He was part of the Malaysia U17 team in 2015.
He also played for the national team in the 2017 AFF U-18 Youth Championship. He scored 3 goals in 5 games. Akhyar helped the Malaysia U19 team qualify for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship. This was the first time in 11 years they had qualified. He scored 1 goal in 4 matches during the qualification. He was also part of the Malaysia U19 squad that won the 2018 AFF U-19 Youth Championship.
Akhyar played in 6 games for the Malaysia U23 at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games. He also played in the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship. On August 15, 2018, Akhyar scored a goal in a 3–1 win against Kyrgyzstan at the 2018 Asian Games.
Senior National Team
In March 2018, Akhyar was called up to the Malaysian national team. He made his first international appearance on March 22, 2018. He came on as a substitute and scored his first international goal for Malaysia.
He was part of the Malaysia national team for the 2018 AFF Championship. In June 2019, Akhyar played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches. He scored a goal in each game against Timor-Leste.
On March 23, 2022, Akhyar scored two goals in a friendly match against the Philippines. This helped Malaysia win 2–0. Akhyar also represented Malaysia at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. He played in all the group stage matches.
Personal Life
Akhyar's older brother, Rafdi Rashid, used to be a striker for Kedah. His older sister, Nurrashidah Rashid, is a Malaysian national Sepak takraw player.
In May 2024, Akhyar was injured during an incident outside his home in Terengganu. He recovered from his injuries. In November 2024, he announced his engagement to Eyka Farhana.
