Terengganu is a state in Malaysia, located on the northeastern side of Peninsular Malaysia. It was once spelled Trengganu or Tringganu. The capital city of Terengganu is Kuala Terengganu. People in Terengganu speak a special type of Malay called Terengganu Malay. You might also see its name written in Jawi (ترڠݢانو) or Thai (ตรังกานู).

Discovering Terengganu
Terengganu is one of the 13 states that make up Malaysia. It is known for its beautiful beaches and rich culture. The state's motto is "Maju, Berkat dan Sejahtera," which means "Progressive, Blessed, and Prosperous." Its official anthem is called Selamat Sultan.
How Terengganu is Governed
Terengganu is a constitutional monarchy, which means it has a ruler and a government that follows a constitution.
- The head of the state is the Sultan. The current Sultan is Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. The Sultan is like a king for the state.
- The head of the government is called the Menteri Besar. This person leads the state's daily operations. The current Menteri Besar is Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
Size and Population
Terengganu covers an area of about 13,035 square kilometers. In 2017, about 1.2 million people lived there. This makes it the 10th most populated state in Malaysia. People from Terengganu are sometimes called Terengganuan or Terengganurian.

Terengganu has a long history.
