Selangor is one of the 13 states in Malaysia. It is located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. To its north is Perak, to its east is Pahang, and to its south is Negeri Sembilan. The Strait of Malacca is to its west.

Selangor completely surrounds two special areas called federal territories. These are Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. Both of these places used to be part of Selangor.

The main capital city of Selangor is Shah Alam. The royal capital, which is important for the royal family, is Klang. Another city, Petaling Jaya, became an official city in 2006. Selangor is one of only four states in Malaysia that have more than one official city. The other states are Sarawak, Johor, and Penang.

Selangor has the biggest economy in Malaysia. In 2015, it made about 239.968 billion RM, which is a lot of money! This amount was about 22.6% of all the money Malaysia made that year. Selangor is also the most developed state in Malaysia. It has great roads and transportation systems. Many people live there, and they generally have a very good quality of life. Selangor also has the lowest poverty rate in the country.
