Perlis, also known as Perlis Indera Kayangan, is the smallest state in Malaysia. It's located on the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia's west coast. To its north, it shares a border with Thailand (specifically the Satun and Songkhla Provinces). To the south, it borders the state of Kedah. When it was under Thai influence, it was called Palit (Thai: ปะลิส). In 2010, Perlis had a population of about 227,025 people.
