Playing Career: A Midfielder's Journey
Akinobu Yokouchi was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, on November 30, 1967. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Mazda in 1986. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Yokouchi was a talented offensive Midfielder. He played in many games for his team. In 1992, Japan's main football league changed. A new league called the J1 League was started. Unfortunately, Yokouchi faced an injury that kept him from playing much. He decided to stop playing football professionally at the end of the 1995 season.
Managerial Career: Leading Teams to Victory
After his playing days, Yokouchi started coaching. He began with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 1996. For several years, he worked with the club's youth teams, helping young players improve.
In 2003, he started coaching the main team. Under his coaching, Sanfrecce Hiroshima won the J.League championship three times. They won in 2012, 2013, and 2015. These were big wins for the club!
In 2017, the team was not doing well. Their manager left in July. Yokouchi stepped in as a temporary manager for one match. This is called a "caretaker manager."
On December 25, 2022, Yokouchi became the manager of Júbilo Iwata. This team was in the J2 League. He worked hard with the team. On November 12, 2023, he led Júbilo Iwata to a big win against Tochigi SC. This victory helped his team get promoted to the J1 League for the 2024 season!
More recently, on June 25, 2025, Yokouchi was appointed as the new manager for Montedio Yamagata. He continues to lead teams in Japanese football.
