Akinobu Yokouchi (横内 昭展, Yokouchi Akinobu, born November 30, 1967) is a Japanese football manager and former football player. He was most recently the head coach for the J1 League club Júbilo Iwata.
Playing Career
Akinobu Yokouchi was born in Fukuoka Prefecture on November 30, 1967. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Mazda in 1986. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
He played many games as an offensive midfielder. In 1992, the Japan Soccer League, where he played, changed. A new league called the J1 League was started. However, Akinobu Yokouchi did not play in many matches after this. This was because of an injury. He stopped playing professional football at the end of the 1995 season.
Managerial Career
After he stopped playing, Yokouchi started coaching. He began his coaching career at Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 1996. For several years, until 2002, he mainly coached the younger teams.
In 2003, he became a coach for the main team. The club won championships in the 2012, 2013, and 2015 J1 League seasons. In 2017, the club was not doing well. Their manager, Hajime Moriyasu, left in July. Yokouchi took over as a temporary manager for one match.
On December 25, 2022, Yokouchi was chosen to be the manager of Júbilo Iwata. This club had moved down to the J2 League. On November 12, 2023, Yokouchi helped his team get promoted back to the J1 League for 2024. They achieved this by winning against Tochigi SC in their final away game.
