Aku Hirviniemi has worked in many theaters across Finland. He has performed in cities like Helsinki, Riihimäki, Jyväskylä, Lahti, and Hämeenlinna. Besides his work on stage, he has also acted in many movies and television shows.
Rise to Fame
Hirviniemi first became well-known to the public through the TV series Presidentin kanslia (The President's Office), which was on air from 2008 to 2011. In the show, he played a chauffeur named Illu Airisto.
In 2010, he became a huge star in Finland thanks to a weekly sketch comedy show called Putous. A sketch comedy show is a TV program made up of many short, funny scenes. In the first season of Putous, his character, a woman named Marja Tyrni, was voted "sketch comedy character of the year." He was a main actor on the show for its first five seasons.
From 2012 to 2016, Hirviniemi also starred in the police drama series Roba on the channel MTV3. In 2014, he co-hosted a comedy talk show called Posse with another former Putous actor, Jaakko Saariluoma, and the stunt group The Dudesons.
Personal Life
Aku Hirviniemi's father, Rauli Hirviniemi, worked as a logistics chief, and his mother, Erja Hirviniemi, is a nurse. His parents have been active in local politics as members of the Riihimäki city council for the Left Alliance party.
His sister, Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, is a member of the Parliament of Finland and a former government minister. When he was younger, Aku was part of a youth political group, but as an adult, he is not active in politics.
Hirviniemi was in an 18-year relationship with actress Niina Lahtinen, and they have two daughters together. The couple separated in 2016. Since 2018, Hirviniemi has been with TV host Sonja Kailassaari. They got engaged in February 2020 and had their first child together in July 2023.
