Alafia is a small, unincorporated community located in southeastern Hillsborough County, Florida, in the United States. It is situated between the towns of Plant City and Lithia. An "unincorporated community" means it's a recognized place where people live, but it doesn't have its own separate city government.

A Look Back at Alafia's History

Alafia is one of the oldest communities in Hillsborough County. Its story began around 1842. That's when people from Prussia, a country that used to be in Europe, started settling there. One of the first settlers was a person named Antoine Wordehoff.

Soon after, many other families moved to the area. They were often helped by a special law called the Armed Occupation Act. This law encouraged people to settle in Florida.

In 1849, a military camp was set up in Alafia. Its purpose was to keep an eye on the Seminole people, who were Native Americans living in Florida. After the camp was established, even more settlers came to live in Alafia. By 1970, about 442 people called Alafia home.
